IKEA shares exact recipe for its delicious meatballs & there are only six steps (2024)

IKEA has decided to unveil the recipe for their famous meatballs as the nation enters its fourth week of lockdown.

Many fans say the meatballs are a highlight of their visit to the Swedish homestore, and you can now replicate the dish with just six simple steps.

In order to create your own delicious Ikea meatballs, you need to combine beef and pork mince and mix to avoid any lumps forming.

Then add chopped onions, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, and then season well with salt and pepper.

Next, you form the small, round balls, and cover them in the fridge for two hours before using, to help them hold their shape.

After this time has passed, heat some oil in a frying pan on a medium heat, and then add your meatballs until they are brown on all sides.

INGREDIENTS

For the meatballs

· 500g beef mince

· 250g pork mince

· 1 onion finely chopped

· 1 clove of garlic (crushed or minced)

· 100g breadcrumbs

· 1 egg

· 5 tablespoons of whole milk

· salt and pepper to taste

For the cream sauce

· dash of oil

· 40g butter

· 40g plain flour

· 150ml vegetable stock

· 150ml beef stock

· 150ml thick double cream

· 2 teaspoons soy sauce

· 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

METHOD

For the meatballs

1. Combine beef and pork mince and mix thoroughly to break up any lumps. Add finely chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg and mix. Add milk and season well with salt and pepper.

2. Shape mixture into small, round balls. Place on a clean plate, cover and store in the fridge for 2 hours (to help them hold their shape whilst cooking).

3. In a frying pan, heat oil on medium heat. When hot, gently add your meatballs and brown on all sides.

4. When browned, add to an ovenproof dish and cover. Place in a hot oven (180°C or 160°C fan) and cook for a further 30 minutes.

Swedish cream sauce

5. In frying pan, melt 40g of butter. Whisk in 40g of plain and continue cooking, stirring continuously, for 2 minutes, allowing the flour to cook through. Add 150ml of vegetable stock and 150ml of beef stock and continue to stir. Add 150ml thick double cream, 2 teaspoons of soy sauce and 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard. Bring to a simmer and allow the sauce to thicken. Continue to stir.

6. When ready to eat, serve with your favourite potatoes – either creamy mash or mini new boiled potatoes.

Next, add them to a covered dish, and place in the oven at 180C for 30 minutes.

While this is happening, you can make the famous Swedish cream sauce by first melting 40g of butter in a frying pan.

Then you need to whisk in 40g of plain flour, and stir continuously for around two minutes to allow the flour to cook through.

Add 150ml of vegetable stock, and 150ml of beef stock and continue stirring.

Finally, add in 150ml of thick double cream, two teaspoons of soy sauce, one teaspoon of Dijon mustard and bring to a simmer.

Keep stirring as you allow the sauce to thicken.

When you are ready to tuck in, serve with your favourite potatoes and your meatballs.

Ikea customers usually enjoy the meatballs in the store’s cafe, but they can be picked up in their frozen market too.

All of the 22 UK Ikea shops have shut during the coronavirus lockdown but some of their food markets have reopened to key workers, co-workers and vulnerable individuals, so they can buy essential food products.

They have also transformed their Wembley and Gateshead store car parks into a drive-through testing centre for NHS staff.

Ikea isn’t the only chain to release a beloved recipe with customers, with Greggs releasing a step-by-step guide to making their sausage and bean melts.
