How to make the best healthy apple crisp recipe

The Best Healthy Low-Carb Apple Crisp Recipe - FOODHEAL (3)
  1. You'll choose high-sugared apples; in this case, no need to add any sugar. Golden and Gala apples are my choices.
  2. Replace butter with peanut butter; a very healthy choice. Try to use sugar-free peanut butter. You can also use other nut butter of your choice.
  3. Let's add some coconut cream so that we can have some tenderness and moisture in this apple crisp recipe.
  4. Cook the apples for a few minutes in coconut oil. Cold-pressed coconut oil pulls everything together, making this apple crisp so yummy.

How to cook low-carb apple crisp recipe?

The Best Healthy Low-Carb Apple Crisp Recipe - FOODHEAL (5)

Do you've got a skillet that goes in the oven?

You'll first cook your apples in the skillet, then send them in the oven to bake. This will shorten the baking time, saving you time.

By using oatmeal flour and rolled oats, you'll also reduce the cooking time since these ingredients don't necessarily need any cooking.

I don't peel our apples. Their skin is full of fiber, but be free to peel them.

Can you leave your apple crisp out overnight?

  • Oh yes, you can! you can make this apple crisp in the evening and leave it out on your kitchen counter for the morning breakfast.
  • You can also keep it in the fridge for a few days and reheat it before serving. Just note, however, that the taste and the aspect will degrade with time.

If you're looking for a healthy dessert option that doesn't compromise on taste, I highly recommend trying this delicious and easy-to-make low-carb apple crisp. A gluten-free and vegan dessert naturally sweetened, making it guilt-free. It's the perfect option for you if you want to indulge in something sweet without the added calories. Give it a try and experience the perfect balance of health and indulgence.

We don't top our low-carb apple crisp with ice cream because we don't like ice cream. But again, we eat this for our breakfast...

Author: Githu

Cost: 5€

Equipment

  • sauté pan

  • Baking tin

Ingredients

For topping

  • 2 ½ rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoon syrup or extra depending on your taste
  • 3 tablespoon thick peanut butter
  • 160 ml coconut cream

For filling

  • 10 small apples
  • 1 teaspoon ginger spice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon spice
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil in solid form
  • 1 cup coconut cream

Instructions

  • Heat your oven at 190°

  • Blend 2 cups of rolled oats to get oat flour and pour it in a big bowl

  • Add the other ingredients together with the remaining rolled oats and form a dough that's thick in texture

  • Cover the dough and set it aside

  • Slice your apples into thick wedges and put them in a sauté pan that can go in the oven

  • Sprinkle with ginger & cinnamon, add the coconut oil and cook them first at medium-high heat for about 8 mins

  • Pour the coconut cream, stir gently and cut off the heat

  • Break the dough into crumbles and spread them all over the apples

  • Put the sauté pan in the already hot oven and bake for 17 mins or until the crumbles are golden

  • Let the apple crisp cool and enjoy it while still warm

  • Thank you so much for pining this recipe

Notes

  • I used small apples so use a few if you have big size apples.
  • I use homemade peanut butter that's thick in texture, if you are using a flowing peanut butter consider using 4-5 spoons but then add the coconut cream gradually.
  • If you don't have a skillet/pan that can go the oven, then transfer your apples into a baking tin after adding coconut cream and bake till crumbles are golden.
