The slow burning nature to the character building works with the story, adding suspense to events as the revelations start raining down. What feels like it should be fire and sulphur ends up being more like an April shower - impactful for only a short period before it’s gone and forgotten. The gravity and emotion underpinning the back stories are expertly portrayed, which is what makes this so watchable. No overly detailed background stories, but fragmented blurbs of personalities showing through. I read some negative reviews and I think it has a lot to do with the portrayal of these wellness/self-help resorts experiences. I think the lack of a complete stories and the questionable absurdity of some of the characters isn't bad acting or storytelling, it's part of such an experience. The series shows different ways of people dealing with grief, shame, the conflict between spirituality and reality, and much more. It is just not neatly laid out for the viewer, but utterly chaotic and fragmented. In my opinion, as it should. It captures that sense of the messiness of life. All and all I think it's an interesting series. I also really enjoyed the acting of Melissa McCarthy and Bobby Cannavale. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/02/24 Full Review Sunday Night Streaming o Nine Perfect Strangers Season1 - 7.2 - So the cast of this season was phenomenal, The character development is what sets this show apart from others. Nicole Kidman's accent however was extremely distracting but besides that she played her role perfectly as Masha the leader. The first half of the show is really discovering why each character is there to discover themselves and finally make peace with it. See even though every character is a stranger the way they interact with one another is the best part of the series. I have always enjoyed Bobby Cannavale as an actor and I believe he hit this one out of the park in this role, his interactions with Melissa McCarthy were the highlight of the season. Past episode 5 it really got trippy, you could tell it was going down this route with the drugs but that really changed the whole feel of the show. I personally enjoyed it, I thought it was different and exciting but I can see how it is not everyone's cup of tea. Each episode kept me hooked into a pretty wild finale, I heard it was renewed for season 2 and I will definitely be tuning in. Anything with Nicole Kidman is pretty much must watch TV in my opinion. Nicole Kidman is offputting as Masha a Russian with a murky background who is creepy (not in a fun or good way) from the get-go. Part of it is the wig that looks like a wig, and the odd new face Kidman is sporting these days. With another Masha playing the part this could (and should) have been a hit.The nine characters are all strong and fight to save the series. Bobby Canavale and Melissa McCarthy shine brightest among the cast, as do the staff at the facility. Scenery is beautiful, makes one want to go!Kidman is the torpedo that sinks this ship.
